Hall Ranch Route Description
From the parking area, start riding on the Bitterbrush trail, which takes
off to the west...
The trail gently climbs as it winds through an arid shrubland...
At about 1.2 miles, the trail enters a wooded area, and begins to climb
more steeply up a set of switchbacks. The trail becomes more technical here,
but it's still rideable...
As you reach the top of the climb, distant views open up to the west...
From the top of the climb, the trail drops to a stream crossing, and then
begins to climb gradually again. At about 3.8 miles, you will reach the
start of the Nelson Loop trail. It can be ridden in either direction, I'll
describe the ride in a counter-clockwise direction.
Nelson Loop trail climbs gradually as it
winds in and out of the trees, and crosses a stream along the way...
At the high point of the Nelson Loop trail, you can just barely catch a
glimpse of distant Long's Peak to the west...
From the crest of the trail, descend a short distance to the Nelson Ranch
house. A sign at the site describes the history of the dwelling...
Continue descending until you reach the end of the loop at 6.4 miles.
Return the way you came down Bitterbrush, and enjoy the descent!
